JERSEY CITY – After facing a barrage of shots and dealing with the constant pressure from the Kent Place offense, you would think St. Dominic Academy goalie Julie Lipyanka would find the relatively stress-free second half a welcome relief. But what may have been a nerve-wracking start for most, was fun for the Blue Devils’ junior.
“I actually like it when there’s a lot of pressure,” said Lipyanka, adding that it can get a bit lonely being there by yourself when the ball is on the other end of the field. “I get to play rather than when the ball is on the side and I’m doing nothing. It’s more fun.” Read More

JERSEY CITY - When Union City’s Gabriela Sarrate made it to the Hudson County First Singles title match a year ago, it would be a pivotal moment in her career. Sarrate may not have left with a title, but rather a blueprint to what needed to be done.
These adjustments would pay off as a physically and mentally stronger Sarrate captured the championship which eluded her a year ago with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kearny’s Angie Garma during Monday’s Hudson County Individuals Championships at Lincoln Park. Read More

JERSEY CITY – For St. Dominic Academy, the key to success has been to be grounded.
Behind an offense predicated on fast and low passes, the Blue Devils took control early and never looked back in a 4-0 victory over Memorial yesterday in Jersey City.
“We always try and pass the ball out,” St. Dominic coach Colette Lenaghan said. “We don’t just play kick and run. That’s what my philosophy is all about. Play the game on the floor, it’s not meant to be played in the air.” Read More
