The Rams had a stranglehold on the jumping events, taking first place in both the high and long jumps. Junior Jose Veras took the high jump crown with a leap of 6’6” and Terrol Ishmail’s jump of 19’3.5” was tops in the long jump. On the surface, there couldn’t be two teams more different than Secaucus and St. Peter’s Prep. One is a small Group I public school in the suburbs, while the other is one the state’s largest non-public programs located in the heart of Jersey City.

KEARNY – Mercedes Lois broke a 1-all tie in the first half and the top-seeded Kardinals never looked back as they advanced to the semifinals with a 5-1 victory over No. 8 seed Secaucus yesterday at Kearny Stadium. Lois would add her second goal of the game in the second half off a rebound.

SECAUCUS – At Secaucus, head coach Charlie Voorhees has stressed the importance of being a football program. It’s a program that has focused on a diversified offensive attack by committee along with offensive and defensive philosophies that reach from the varsity team all the way to the peewee level.

SECAUCUS – For years, Secaucus has been the class of the BCSL National in girls volleyball. But for the Patriots, the goals are higher than just a conference title. After falling in the semifinals of the Group I tournament the past two seasons, Secaucus has displayed an added emphasis on defense early on this season.

One step closer

SECAUCUS – Success has not made the Patriots content. The three-time defending champions of the BCSL National division, playoff success had eluded Secaucus until last season, when they won a state playoff game for the first time in more than five seasons. However, their title hopes came to an end a week later when they dropped a 14-0 decision to Hoboken.
“I would like to say that the guys felt like they were going to win last year,” Secaucus coach Charlie Voorhees said. “They really felt they had the ability to win last year.” Read More
