The Bruins had controlled the ball on offense and forced a pair of turnovers on defense, leaving St. Peter’s Prep in danger of their second-straight stunning loss.

NORTH BERGEN – For the Bruins softball team, this is an opportunity that rarely comes along. Returning eight starters is a luxury any coach would love to have. With eight starters coming back from a team which went 23-4 a year ago, head coach Tom Eagleson was hard-pressed to remember having a team with this combination of talent and experience.

KEARNY – In a wild game between North Bergen and Kearny in the quarterfinals of the Hudson County Tournament, it only seemed appropriate that the ending would be bizarre as well. In this case, it is an ending that has yet to truly be determined.
Playing in heavy rain for most of the contest, play was halted with around 19 minutes left in the second half due to lightning. After a roughly 45-minute delay, play was suspended with the storm still going and large puddles on top of the turf at Kearny Stadium.

Royster didn’t get many touches, but when he did, he took advantage of them as the Marauders cruised past North Bergen 49-16 at Caven Point.

UNION CITY – After last week’s tough defeat to Teaneck, North Bergen was looking to bounce back and send a message. Through an array of blitzes and pressure, the message was sent loud and clear, as the Bruins used a dominant defensive performance to shut out Union City 14-0 last night at Roosevelt Stadium.
“That’s the whole thing about the Bruins,” Quarterback Peter Ramanand said. “Our defense just comes harder and that gets the offense to come out fired up and score points.”

NORTH BERGEN – After meeting in the last three HCIAA Coviello finals, there’s no denying that Memorial and North Bergen has become one of the area’s best rivalries.
The HCIAA may be gone, but the rivalry is as strong as ever.

NORTH BERGEN – After missing the playoffs for the first time in 21 years, the Bruins took the first step towards a return trip to the postseason.
North Bergen ran wild, racking up 323 yards on the ground in a convincing 43-8 victory over long-time rival Memorial yesterday at Bruins Stadium.

Bouncing back

NORTH BERGEN – Winning had become a given in North Bergen under long-time head coach Vin Ascolese. But that run of success, including 21 straight trips to the state playoffs, came to an end as injuries and inexperience contributed to a disappointing 3-7 campaign.
“I think that they felt that they let everyone who played here down,” Ascolese said. “It hurt. We won the last game of the season and we were happy about that, but it still didn’t take away the idea that we didn’t make the playoffs and we didn’t have a winning season.
