SECAUCUS - The HCTCA Championships kicked off yesterday with the field events with the Dickinson boys and Bayonne girls taking early control at the top of the leader boards.

The Rams had a stranglehold on the jumping events, taking first place in both the high and long jumps. Junior Jose Veras took the high jump crown with a leap of 6’6” and Terrol Ishmail’s jump of 19’3.5” was tops in the long jump. Dickinson Dan Jean (fifth, long jump) and Hassan Hamed (tied third, high jump) also placed in the events. Read More

After being no-hit for the entire game, Zully Galabay tied the game for Harrison on a bloop single with two outs in the seventh. JERSEY CITY – On the surface, yesterday’s match against McNair was merely one last tune-up before the start of the Hudson County Tournament for the Harrison boys volleyball team. But for the Blue Tide, who has lost three of their previous four matches, calling it a must-win might be more appropriate.

HARRISON – With their team playing in its first home state playoff game since 1991, the Blue Tide’s four senior starters were determined not to have their careers end on this night.

Trailing in the fourth after an extended scoring drought, Harrison responed with 14 points in the final six and a half minutes to ensure the program’s first playoff game in 12 years would result in a win, a 36-28 victory over McNair in the first round of the NJSIAA North 2, Group I tournament. JERSEY CITY - The Jersey City Public School Championship came down to one match, but if the pressure got to McNair's Yumi Hinnenkamp, you wouldn't have known it. The junior cruised to a convincing 8-1 victory over Ferris' Iesha Crandon to lock up the title for 1st singles as well as the team championship for the Cougars.

SECAUCUS – After winning their first three games with little resistance, High Tech faced their first serious test of the young season yesterday. The Lasercats emerged from the challenge and some early adversity with a 4-1 victory over McNair at Laurel Park.

After winning their first three games by a 21-0 margin, High Tech (4-0) found themselves in trouble late in the first half. The Cougars (4-2) tied the score on a Matt Velazquez penalty kick and momentum seemed to be on their side. Read More
