But as Dickinson locked up a third-straight title at the Hudson County Cross Country Championships yesterday at Steven Gregg Park, the state has had little choice but to take notice of the Jersey City school’s rise as legitimate challenge in the state. Read More

JERSEY CITY – All throughout St. Anthony high school is an endless collection of banners and trophies documenting the many state and national titles of the storied boys basketball program. Now the football team will be adding a banner of its own as is making a name for itself in the process.

In just their third year of varsity program, the Friars have secured their first championship, clinching the HCIAL American Division title after defeating Hoboken 36-20 last night at Caven Point. Read More

JERSEY CITY – Coming off of his team’s first loss of the season, Lincoln head coach Robert Hampton could sense a breakout game was coming for QB Ronald Butler. The senior responded with a performance that exceeded even his coach’s expectations.

Butler had what might have been the best game of his career as he finished with nearly 400 total yards and four touchdowns in an electrifying performance as the Lions overcame an early 18-point deficit to stun Hoboken 42-18 yesterday at Caven Point. Read More

HOBOKEN – JFK Stadium may not be the home field for High Tech’s Natalie Classen, but with the success she’s had there, it’d be hard to find a place which fits her game as well.

After hitting two homers there in a game there earlier in the season, the sophomore added three more three hits yesterday including an inside-the-park homer as the Lasercats downed top-seeded Hoboken 10-4 in the quarterfinals of the Hudson County Tournament.

HOBOKEN – For the first half, the Union City boys basketball team looked every bit like an offense that was hamstrung by the loss top scorer Jonathan Agurto.

The Soaring Eagles’ offense experienced a dramatic turnaround in the second half as the trio of Eury Almonte, Ramon Martinez and Robert Ramos combined for 27 second-half points to lift Union City towards their first win of the season, a 53-48 victory last night at Hoboken.

HOBOKEN – Most head coaches might dread losing as many players as Lou Taglieri did this offseason. But for the fifth-year head man at Hoboken, this revamped roster with 16 new starters provides a challenge that he has embraced thus far.

“Coaching becomes fun again,” Taglieri said about the opportunity to coach this many first-year players. “They don’t know any better and a lot of the bad habits aren’t there. These kids have been here working and the only thing bad about this is that they don’t have a reference point. As soon as the experience gets there I think they’ll start to gel.” Read More
