SECAUCUS - The HCTCA Championships kicked off yesterday with the field events with the Dickinson boys and Bayonne girls taking early control at the top of the leader boards.
The Rams had a stranglehold on the jumping events, taking first place in both the high and long jumps. Junior Jose Veras took the high jump crown with a leap of 6’6” and Terrol Ishmail’s jump of 19’3.5” was tops in the long jump. NORTH BERGEN – For Noel Allen and Dany Abrue, it had to be painful to watch. Both sidelined midway through the first quarter with foul trouble, the two Bruin standouts had to sit as an early North Bergen lead quickly morphed into a seven-point deficit at the half.

BAYONNE – Watching a two-goal lead evaporate in the final 12 minutes of regulation is something that could shake even the most experienced of teams, let alone a squad as young as Bayonne.

BAYONNE – With four key starters from last year’s HCIAA Coviello championship team gone to graduation, Bayonne head coach Pat Longo knew that this season would prove to be one of her most challenging ones as a coach. Despite the challenges that come with rebuilding, the wins have continued to come for a Bees squad that swept Holy Family 25-13, 25-11 in a meeting of in-city rivals.

BAYONNE - For Lincoln’s Ronald Butler, it was a personal highlight film.
The junior receiver/defensive back set the tone early with a series of spectacular plays as the Lions rolled to a 34-0 victory over Bayonne last night at Veterans Stadium.

BAYONNE – In an ideal situation, Bayonne head coach Frank Blunda would have a squad full of experience. However with just eight returning starters, it’s a luxury the fifth-year coach does not have at his disposal.
“We’re kind of loaded with sophomores and juniors,” Blunda said. “There’s only going to be a few seniors on the field and the majority of them are going to be first-year varsity players.”
