Six advance in HCT opening round

KEARNY – The Hudson County Girls Volleyball Tournament opened up yesterday with six-team pool play in three different locations – Bayonne, Kearny and West New York. The top two teams from each venue would advance in the playoffs.
In play at Kearny, both the Kardinals and Ferris advanced to the next round. Both schools went 9-1 on the day. The one loss for each side came when they split their two-game match against each other. The Bulldogs and Kardinals were unbeaten in their other matches against County Prep, Holy Family, Hudson Catholic and North Bergen.
Bayonne, Memorial, Secaucus and Union City emerged victorious in opening round action.
The Patriots (No. 1 seed) and Tigers (No. 2 seed) finished pool play with the top records overall and earned byes into Wednesday’s semifinal round.
The next round will take place tomorrow with No. 6 seed Union City squaring off at No. 3 seed Kearny in one matchup and No. 5 seed Ferris playing at No. 4 seed Bayonne in the other. Both matches are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
