NEW PROVIDENCE – Some might view Secaucus’ 4-0 defeat to New Providence in the NJSIAA North 2, Group I title game as the end of a successful season. But for head coach Gino DePinto, it also represents a starting point for 2010.

“I just told the girls to go out there, just have fun,” DePinto said to his squad which entered the match as heavy underdogs. “We made it this far and this is the beginning of something the next few years to build upon.” Read More

MONTCLAIR – With 19 wins and a Hudson County championship, there’s no denying that this season has been a successful one for the Kearny girls soccer team.

As impressive as this season has been for the third-seeded Kardinals, yesterday’s 7-1 loss to second-seeded Montclair in the NJSIAA North 1, Group IV semifinals served as clear message of what it will take to reach that next step towards being a state power.

BAYONNE – Thanks in large part to a 0-4 start, the Bees entered the Hudson County Tournament as a No. 6 seed. Now they’re determined to prove that they are better than their record and seed would indicate.

KEARNY – Mercedes Lois broke a 1-all tie in the first half and the top-seeded Kardinals never looked back as they advanced to the semifinals with a 5-1 victory over No. 8 seed Secaucus yesterday at Kearny Stadium. Lois would add her second goal of the game in the second half off a rebound.

In their first year with a Hudson County schedule, it hasn’t taken long for Kearny to show that they are the county’s top team. Armed with a talented group of scorers led by Samantha Pace, Mercedes Lois and Catherine O’Neill, the Kardinals went undefeated in league play and earned the top seed in the Hudson County Girls Soccer Tournament.

Behind an offense predicated on fast and low passes, the Blue Devils took control early and never looked back in a 4-0 victory over Memorial yesterday in Jersey City.
