HCT: Lois leads Kards, Blue Tide win

KEARNY – Mercedes Lois broke a 1-all tie in the first half and the top-seeded Kardinals never looked back as they advanced to the semifinals with a 5-1 victory over No. 8 seed Secaucus yesterday at Kearny Stadium. Lois would add her second goal of the game in the second half off a rebound.

Samantha Pace, Janitza Aquino and Catherine O’Neill also had goals for Kearny (14-2). O’Neill and Aquino also added assists. Alicia Weber made three saves in the victory.

Kearny will play Harrison on Wednesday in the semifinals.

Cynthia Costello’s goal gave Secaucus (8-4-3) an early 1-0 lead. Kelsey Snedeker made nine saves in defeat.

Harrison 2, St. Dominic 1 (SO)

Sally Nogueira and Fatima Gutierrez scored in the shoot out as No. 5 seed Harrison downed No. 4 seed St. Dominic Academy yesterday in Jersey City. Nogueira's goal was the game-winner.

Kenia Aguilar opened the scoring for the Blue Tide (8-5-5) off a cross from Thianara Ramos in the 17th minute. Nicole Cerqueira made nine saves in net for the win.

Ali Esposito scored to lone goal for the Blue Devils (11-6-1) in the last minute of the opening half to tie the score at 1-1.
