After three months of drama, exciting plays, standout performances and a shattered backboard, the 2011-2012 high school basketball season in Hudson County has come to a close.

This season saw St. Anthony finish undefeated for the second-straight season, ending with a Tournament of Champions win over Plainfield. It also marked the last chapter in the remarkable career of UCLA-bound Kyle Anderson, who was a perfect 65-0 in the Friars' maroon and gold and was selected as a McDonald's All-American.

While Anderson and St. Anthony continued their reign at the top, there was a changing of the guard throughout the county. Hudson Catholic won its first Hudson County Tournament, ending a four-year reign of in-city rival St. Peter's Prep. On the girls side, Lincoln stunned three-time defending champion Bayonne to win the Hudson County Tournament.

As we say farewell to the season, here are our selections for Hudson County Varsity's Third Annual All-County Team.

2012 All-County First Team

Forward: Breana Bey, Junior, Lincoln

Breana Bey

This 5-foot-9 forward had a breakout campaign averaging 23 points and eight rebounds. Bey was clutch in the Hudson County Tournament, scoring 30 against North Bergen and putting up 17 points and 15 rebounds in the title game vs Bayonne. She had 10 fourth quarter points in the semifinals vs Secaucus. Four times she scored 30 or more points, highlighted by a career-best 36 vs Holy Family. Bey shined against the state's best as she had 27 points vs Newark Tech, 18 points and 12 rebounds vs DePaul and 14 points vs Shabazz.

Guard: Tara Flynn, Senior, Bayonne

Tara Flynn

The county's premier point guard, Flynn did a little bit of everything for the Bees. A lethal outside shooter, the 5-foot-6 senior hit 71 3-pointers on the season, highlighted by five vs in-city rival Holy Family and four in wins over Mount St. Mary and Lincoln. Flynn reached the 1,000-point mark in a win over Snyder and finished the season with an average of 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. The Adelphi-bound guard was also an elite defender and was always matched against the opponent's top perimeter scorer.

Guard: Stefanie Gomes, Senior, Kearny

Stefanie Gomes

Gomes was asked to become Kearny's go-to scorer this year, a task she proved more than capable of. The 5-foot-8 senior averaged 19 points per game for the 19-9 Kardinals. Thirteen times Gomes eclipsed the 20-point mark, including five-straight games in January. A NJSAC North-South All-Star Game selection, Gomes matched her career-high with 29 points in the state playoffs vs Union City. A scoring threat from inside or out, Gomes reached the 1,000-point mark and had double-doubles in wins over Plainfield and St. Dominic.

Center: Kiante Johnson, Freshman, Lincoln

Kiante Johnson

An intimidating presence in the paint, Johnson and Breana Bey formed one of North Jersey's top frontcourt duos. Only a freshman, Johnson averaged 12 points and 9.2 rebounds for Lincoln. She scored a career-high 24 points in the state playoffs vs Newark Tech.  The 5-foot-11 center punished St. Dominic for 18 points and 16 rebounds and had 18 points and 12 rebounds vs Kearny. Johnson had 13 points and eight rebounds in the HCT title game vs Bayonne. Against Shabazz, she added seven points and eight rebounds.

Guard: Andie Lennon, Freshman, Secaucus

Andie Lennon

Lennon might have only been a freshman, but this point guard was the floor general for Secaucus from Day one, scoring 25 points in her first varsity game. She led the Patriots in scoring at 14.3 points per game and set a school record for most 3-pointers in a season with 41. Standing at just 5-foot-3, Lennon was fearless in the lane. One of the quickest players in the county, she had three 25-plus point games on the year, one coming in an upset over River Dell. Lennon also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.8 steals per game.

Lennon

Guard: Sybil Lynch, Senior, Hoboken

Sybil Lynch

Few players meant more to her team than Lynch did for the Red Wings. The dynamic point guard averaged 18 points, eight assists and seven steals per game to lead Hoboken to its best season in more than five years. Capable of taking over at any time with her game-breaking speed, Lynch lit up Hudson Catholic for 31 points and scored 26 against Bergen Tech. Lynch scored 25 points and reached the 1,000-point mark in a win over Union City. Ten times this year she scored 20 or more points and  finished her career with 1,160 points.

Lynch

Forward: Marisa McCabe, Senior, Marist

Marisa McCabe

After having her junior season wrecked by injuries, McCabe became one of the county's toughest matchups. A 5-foot-11 wing, this senior scored in double figures in 10 of her last 12 games, highlighted by a 27-point outburst against North Bergen. McCabe, who has interest from multiple Division III teams, had eight double-doubles and finished with averages of 9.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. On defense, her quickness and length allowed her to defend any of the five positions and she averaged 1.8 blocks per game.

McCabe

Forward: Julia McClure, Freshman, Secaucus

Julia McClure

McClure was forced to play out of position for a size-challenged Patriots squad, but it didn't stop her from being one of the county's premier inside players. The 5-foot-6 freshman averaged 14.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals per game for Secaucus. McClure had 13 double-doubles, highlighted by a 23-point,15-rebound outburst vs Marist in the HCT. McClure added 26 points and 18 rebounds vs Paramus. She had her first career triple-double on Jan. 20 vs Wallington with 14 points, 18 rebounds and 10 steals.

McClure

Forward: Arianna Nieves, Senior, St. Dominic

Arianna Nieves

One of the county's most feared outside shooters, Nieves helped lead a young Blue Devils squad the Hudson County semifinals. The 5-foot-9 senior wing, connected on 48 3-pointers this season, second-most in the county and hit at least one 3-pointer in all, but two games. Nieves drained five 3-pointers in a Hudson County Tournament victory over Holy Family and added four treys apiece in wins over Snyder and Hoboken. Nieves averaged six rebounds and two assists per game while often guarding the opponent's tallest player.

Nieves

Forward: Lisa Rovatsos, Senior, Bayonne

Lisa Rovatsos

Few could match the versatility or ability to take over a game the way this senior could. The 5-foot-8 Rovatsos averaged 17.5 points and 11 rebounds per game for the Bees. She poured in 30 points and 11 rebounds in a state playoff win over Sayerville and torched Bishop Kearney for 36 points and 18 rebounds. The Caldwell College-bound wing continued to display an improved outside game as she hit 31 3-pointers this season. Four came in the HCT final against Lincoln when she scored 24 points. Rovatsos finished with 1,636 career points.
