Bees fall short in Dan Finn

JERSEY CITY – A fourth-quarter comeback from the Bees fell short in the final minute as Bayonne fell 53-52 to Lakeland in the Dan Finn Classic at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center at NJCU.
Kimmy Bachmann scored the game-winning points for the Lancers (18-5) on a pair of free throws with 27.3 seconds left in the game. The Bees (22-3) would have two chances to regain the lead, but came away empty-handed on each occasion.
Bayonne was trailing by as many as nine points in the second half, but used an 8-0 run capped off by a Luisa Montalvo layup which gave the Bees their first lead since the opening quarter at 47-45.
Montalvo scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, including a 3-pointer which gave them a 52-51 lead with just 35 seconds left in the game. The senior finished with a game-high 19 points along with 11 rebounds and four steals to take home MVP honors for Bayonne.
Lisa Rovatsos added 19 points and nine rebounds for the Bees and Tara Flynn scored 10 in defeat.
Bachmann was named MVP for Lakeland as she finished with 13 points, six rebounds and six assists. Megan O’Brien and Sam Chrichello added 15 points apiece. Chrichello also had nine rebounds.
