HCT Roundup: Career night by Vazquez lifts Marist

Ashley Vazquez set career highs in points (32) and steals (10) for Marist last night.

Marist 77, County Prep 46

Senior Ashley Vazquez scored a career-high 32 points and 10 steals (also a career high) as No. 4 seed Marist cruised in the first round of the Hudson County Tournament last night in Bayonne.

Antoinette Blake had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Royal Knights (14-7) in the win. Desiree Denmark added 13 points as Marist stormed out to a 27-point lead at the half

Amanda Casillas led the 13th-seeded Hurricanes with 12 points in defeat.

Lincoln 60, Memorial 29

Nhire Adams scored 15 as No. 3 seed Lincoln used a balanced offensive attack to advance to the quarterfinals of the Hudson County Tournament yesterday in Jersey City.

Eight different players scored five or more points for the Lions in the win, led by Adams and Indigo Hatcher’s 10 points. Sharmane Rhodes added seven points for a Lincoln team which will host Holy Family in the next round.

Caolanny Melo led No. 14 seed Memorial with a game-high 18 points in defeat.

Secaucus 59, Hoboken 30

Shannon Waters led all scorers with 20 points and added six rebounds as the Patriots advanced to the quarterfinals of the Hudson County Tournament yesterday in Secaucus.

Sixteen of Waters’ points came in the opening half as No. 2 seed Secaucus (17-2) opened up a 33-point halftime advantage.

Teammate Andrea Innis also had a big opening half, scoring 14 of her 17 points before the intermission. Innis added 11 rebounds and seven assists as the Patriots advance to host North Bergen on Saturday.

Renee Zabaleta led the No. 15 seeded Red Wings (7-12) with eight points.
