Roundup: Aquino scores 1,000th in Kearny win

Kearny's Janitza Aquino scored 27 points to eclipse 1,000 points for her career.

Junior Janitza Aquino scored her 1,000th career point as the Kardinals used a big fourth quarter to emerge victorious on Tuesday in Kearny.

Aquino, who now has 1,001 points in her career, scored 10 of her game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter. Stefanie Gomes also had 11 points in the fourth quarter as Kearny (6-8) outscored Union City (6-8) 21-7 in the final period. Gomes, a sophomore finished with 19 points.

Jeanette Fernandez led the Soaring Eagles with 16 points. Angela Estrada and Evelyn Garcia added eight points apiece in defeat.
