HCV Picks: Championship Week
Sheldon Royster and the Marauders look to avenge a 42-9 loss to Don Bosco last month.
After 13 weeks, it all comes down to one final game for Secaucus and St. Peter’s Prep. The two top teams in Hudson County will have a chance for a state title this weekend.
This is unfamiliar territory for a Patriots squad that is playing in the finals for the first time since 1996. With an 11-0 record it has been a storybook season for Secaucus. But standing in the way of their first ever championship is a strong Cedar Grove team that has won the North 2, Group I title three times this decade.
For St. Peter’s Prep, ending the season at Giants Stadium is nothing new as they’re in the Non-Public, Group IV title game for the fourth time in five years. Despite being the No. 2 ranked team in the state, the Marauders enter Saturday’s final as heavy underdogs against a Don Bosco Prep squad that has been a continuous night for St. Peter’s. In each of the past three seasons, the Marauder season has ended in blowout losses to the Ironmen. The regular season matchup saw a similar result as Don Bosco won 42-9 four weeks ago in Ramsey.
