The 2011 high school football season in Hudson County was certainly one to remember. North Bergen became the first Hudson County team since 2005 with a miraculous 14-13 win over Montclair on the game's final play to send head coach Vincent Ascolese into retirement with one last state championship.

The Bruins' title wasn't the only big story as Bayonne and Memorial experienced significant turnarounds, making the playoffs after long droughts. The year also saw another huge season from Hoboken and Union City and the continuation of St. Peter's Prep's in-county winning streak.

This year's edition of the All-County Team features just three returning members highlighted by All-State linebacker Vin Ascolese, the only three-time recipient.

Below are the members of Hudson County Varsity's Third Annual All-County Team.

HCV All-County Offense

Quarterback: Brandon Napoleon, Senior, St. Peter's Prep
Brandon Napoleon, St. Peter's Prep

One of the state's top athletes, Napoleon was named the HCIAL Red Division's Co-Player of the Year. The West Virginia-bound senior and Semper Fidelis All-American passed for 1,218 yards and 11 touchdowns on the year, highlighted by a 293-yard, four-touchdown game vs Montclair. He rushed for 460 yards and four TDs, returned a kickoff for a score and had an interception.

Running Back: Donte Carter, Junior, Hoboken
Donte Carter, Hoboken

The running game was a question for Hoboken before the year, but this junior quickly eased those concerns, rushing for more than 1,300 yards and 22 touchdowns. Carter had eight-straight games of 100-plus yards for the Red Wings. Against Lincoln he rushed for 115 yards and three touchdowns and caught a TD pass in the game's final minutes. He had 70 tackles and two interceptions on defense.

Running Back: Damian Corredor, Junior, Weehawken
Damian Corredor, Weehawken

Corredor rewrote the school record books this year setting new marks for rushing yards, total offense and touchdowns. He rushed for 1,635 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. The highlight came against Bogota when he rushed for 338 yards and four touchdowns and had 475 total yards. A third-team All-State selection, Corredor has generated plenty of Division 1 interest.

Running Back: Jared Crayton, Senior, St. Peter's Prep
Jared Crayton, St. Peter's Prep

Faced with the unenviable task of replacing Savon Huggins, Crayton proved up for the challenge. The HCIAL Red Division's Offensive Player of the Year, Crayton rushed for 1,0008 yards and 14 touchdowns and made 21 receptions for 234 yards and three touchdowns. The bruising senior had five 100-plus yard rushing games, highlighted by 140 yards and two touchdowns against Bayonne.

Running Back: Chris Gomez, Senior, Memorial
Chris Gomez, Memorial

Memorial qualified for the state playoffs for the first time since 2001  thanks in large part to the hard-running senior. Gomez rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns this season for the Tigers. He had 144 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 upset over Hoboken. Gomez later added 208 yards and four touchdowns against Ferris and 209 yards with three touchdowns vs Marist.

Wide Receiver: Charlie Callinan, Junior, St. Peter's Prep
Charlie Callinan, St. Peter's Prep

A physical receiver, Callinan was the Marauders' go-to guy in the passing game. The 6-foot-4 junior had 33 receptions for 515 yards and four touchdowns, all team highs. He torched Montclair for eight catches, 121 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener. Callinan also had 109 yards against North Bergen and is one of the state's top 2013 prospects and has been offered by Rutgers.

Wide Receiver: Steven Jones, Junior, Lincoln

The 6-foot-2 wideout combined size and speed to become one of the county's top wideouts. A HCIAL White Division First Team selection, Jones caught 23 passes for 502 yards and seven touchdowns. He shredded rival St. Anthony for four catches, 102 yards and two touchdowns. The junior added a 122-yard, two-touchdown game vs Kearny and had a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown.

He had three receptions for 94 yards in a win over Bayonne and added four catches and a TD against St. Joseph Regional. The Rutgers-bound senior was a punishing blocker for a Prep offense which rushed for more than 2,400 yards. Giacone will play in the Chesapeake Bowl on Dec. 30.

Giacone
Offensive Line: Russell Fallacara, Senior, Bayonne
Russell Fallacara, Bayonne

A three-year starter, Fallacara shifted from tackle to guard, a move which paid off handsomely for the Bees. He paved the way for a Bayonne offense which rushed for 2,500 yards and was selected as a First Team lineman by the HCIAL Red Division coaches for the second time. On defense, Fallacara made 38 tackles and three sacks. He had six tackles and a sack in a win over Union City.

Fallacara
Offensive Line: Adolfo Gonzalez, Senior, North Bergen
Adolfo Gonzalez, North Bergen

Gonzalez moved over from center to right tackle in 2011 and was quickly at home in his new position. The lone returning starter on the Bruins' offensive line, the senior anchored the unit for an offense which stunned Montclair in the North 1, Group IV title game. The 5-foot-11, 255-pound tackle was a HCIAL Red Division First Team selection and also served as the Bruins' long snapper.

Gonzalez
Offensive Line: Jeffrey Rodriguez, Junior, Union City
Jeffrey Rodriguez, Union City

The Soaring Eagles' rushing was among the best in the area regardless of which back was carrying the football thanks in large part to this junior. Rodriguez, a 5-foot-10, 255-pound center, was a consensus HCIAL Red Division First Team selection on the offensive line. As a team Union City averaged 31.3 points and more than 275 rushing yards per game in Rodriguez's 10 starts.

Rodriguez
Offensive Line: Darius Saffold, Senior, Memorial
Darius Saffold, Memorial

A mainstay on both sides of the ball, Saffold was selected as a First Team Offensive Lineman by the HCIAL Red Division coaches in 2011. The left guard anchored a Tigers team which made the state playoffs for the first time since 2001. At defensive tackle, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound senior forced a pair of fumbles for a Memorial defense which allowed eight points or less three times.

Saffold
Offensive Line: Keon Williams, Senior, St. Peter's Prep
Keon Williams, St. Peter's Prep

Whether it was at guard or tackle, this senior was a mauler on the Prep offensive line in 2011. The 6-foot-2, 280-pound senior was a two-team All-HCIAL Red Division First Team selection. Williams was the lone senior and returning starter on the offensive line for a Marauder team which rushed for more than 2,400 yards and averaged 32 points per game this season.

HCV All-County Defense

Defensive Line: Nick Garcia, Senior, North Bergen
Nick Garcia, North Bergen

At 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, Garcia might not have looked the part of a top defensive tackle. The results certainly show a different story. A skilled pass rusher, the senior made 11 sacks on the season, highlighted one on the final play of the North 1, Group IV overtime win over rival Union City. Garcia added two sacks against Montclair and was also a starting guard for the Bruins' offense.

Garcia
Defensive Line: Jeremiah Peguero, Junior, Lincoln
Jeremiah Peguero, Lincoln

A three-year starter, Peguero shined on both sides of the line for the Lions. He returned a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown in a win over Hudson Catholic. For the year, the junior made 53 tackles and forced a pair of fumbles. On offense, Peguero was the HCIAL White Division's top lineman as the tackle didn't allow a sack this season for a Lincoln team which averaged 29.8 points per game.

Peguero
Defensive Line: Jheisson Perozo, Senion, Union City
Jheisson Perozo, Union City

A relative unknown his first three years, Perozo emerged as one of the county's most feared defensive ends. The senior captain led the Soaring Eagles with nine sacks on the year and created havoc. In an Oct. 28 win over North Bergen, he forced and returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown. The 6-foot-6 Perozo used his size to be a force against the run with more than 80 tackles.

Perozo
Defensive Line: Marquise Watson, Junior, St. Peter's Prep
Marquise Watson, St. Peter's Prep

One of the county's most versatile defensive players, Watson was a terror for opposing offenses regardless of where he lined up.
