Players to Watch in 2012

Boys Volleyball

Rafael Barcos, Union City
Barcos had 157 kills and 66 digs as a freshman for a surprising Soaring Eagles squad. Nine times he had nine or more kills in a match, including nine in the HCT finals vs St. Peter's Prep.

Konrad Budny, Bayonne
One of the state's premier setters, this 6-foot-3 senior had 505 assists and 48 digs a year ago. A three-year starter, Budny is a two-time All-County performer.

Kris Kucza, Bayonne
An athletic threat from the outside, Kucza had 264 kills for the Bees last season. A 6-foot-0 senior, Kucza had 22 kills vs Union City and 14 kills in playoff matches vs Livingston and St. Peter's Prep.

Tyler Lee, St. Peter's Prep
One of the state's top sophomores, Lee had 548 assists, including 30 or more in a match six different times. In a win over Union City, this setter had a staggering 36 assists and 22 digs.

Matt Muchowski, Harrison
A towering presence in middle at 6-foot-6, Muchowski had 58 blocks and 55 kills for the Blue Tide a season ago.  He had nine kills and five blocks in a win over McNair, both season-highs for the senior.

Victor Narvaez, Harrison
A three-year starter at setter, Narvaez had 533 assists a year ago, including 33 vs McNair and 31 vs Union City. He is also a fine defender, posting 132 digs.

Elicio Olivares, Memorial
One of the more versatile players in the county, Olivares had 132 digs and 76 kills to earn Third Team All-County honors. The 5-foot-7 senior had 17 digs, 16 service points and 10 kills in a win over Union City.

William Sanchez, North Bergen
This senior racked up 166 kills for the Bruins a season ago. Sanchez, an outside hitter, had seven games with double-digit kills, including 15 apiece in wins over Lincoln and McNair.

Inolis Santana, Memorial
This 5-foot-9 senior was a key cog in the Tigers' turnaround a season ago, going from three wins to 15. Santana had 331 assists, including 30 in wins over Bayonne and Union City.

Joe Walter, St. Peter's Prep
Walter filled in at libero a season ago without a hitch, notching 176 digs for the Hudson County and North II champion Marauders. The 5-foot-10 senior moves back to outside hitter in 2012.
