LIVINGSTON – Some of the state’s top volleyball teams, including three from Hudson County, descended to Livingston for the Livingston Invitational. For the Hudson trio the results were mixed in the 16-team field which featured five squads among the top 20 in the state.

Bayonne, ranked 17th in New Jersey, led the Hudson contingent by going 4-2 in pool play. The Bees split with Kearny and won both games against No. 15 ranked Eastern to advance to single-elimination tournament.

Bayonne’s tournament run would end there as they fell to Livingston in the quarterfinals. The host Lancers, ranked fifth in the state, would advance all the way to the final before falling to Old Bridge 25-23. Old Bridge is currently ranked No. 1 in the state and is the only team to score a win over St. Peter’s Prep thus far this season.

While the Bees advanced to the tournament stage of the invitational, Hudson’s two other representatives didn’t fair as well. The Kardinals went 1-5 in Pool A. Dickinson went 1-5 in Pool B, its one win coming when they split with Pope John.
