The balls have been put away and the lights have been turned off on a 2009-2010 high school basketball season in Hudson County that certainly wasn't lacking in memorable moments.
This season saw legendary head coach Bob Hurley finally earn basketball's highest honor as he was elected to the Hall of Fame. We saw a true Hudson County Tournament for the first time with the Bayonne girls and St. Peter's Prep emerging victorious. The championships wouldn't stop there as Jersey City was the capital of New Jersey high school basketball for one evening in March as the Marauders and Friars took home sectional titles on the same night in Piscataway. PISCATAWAY - In what has already been an impressive season for St. Anthony and St. Peter's Prep you can now add another accomplishment to their already impressive resumes - sectional champions.
One year after being blown out at home by Seton Hall Prep in the semifinals, the Marauders extracted some revenge against their Essex County rival. After struggling to find a consistency on the offensive end for the first three quarters, St. Peter’s Prep broke through in the fourth behind a pair of Stephon Whyatt 3-pointers to earn a 64-54 win in the NJSIAA Non-Public, North A final.
