The balls have been put away and the lights have been turned off on a 2010-2011 high school basketball season in Hudson County that certainly wasn't lacking in memorable moments.
This season saw St. Anthony finish undefeated and pick up a fourth mythical national championship in four different decades. The Friars won 33 games, including a March showdown with St. Patrick in what was one of the most anticipated matchups in high school history.
St. Anthony was hardly the only ones to make headlines. The Bayonne girls and St. Peter’s Prep boys continued their dominance in their respective leagues. The Bees won a third-straight county championship while the Marauders took home a fourth-straight championship.
As we say farewell to the season, here are our selections for Hudson County Varsity's Second Annual All-County Team.

WEST LONG BRANCH – It’s rare that Kyle Anderson is rendered powerless in the confines of a basketball gym. The middle of last night’s NJSIAA Tournament of Champions semifinal was one of those occasions.
Saddled to the bench with three fouls, the St. Anthony junior could only watch as his Friars’ teammates struggled with a relentless Central team. But when he returned to action midway through the third quarter, a determined and well-rested Anderson took over. Read More

PISCATAWAY – After months of speculation, the question of who is Number 1 has been answered. That title – along with the NJSIAA Non-Public, North B crown, belongs to St. Anthony.
Defense and endurance, two long-time staples of the Friars and head coach Bob Hurley helped proved to be the difference in this showdown between the nation’s top two teams. St. Anthony scored 23 of the game’s final 28 points to knock off previously unbeaten and No. 1 ranked St. Patrick 62-45 last night in arguably the biggest game in New Jersey history in front of a sold out Louis Brown Athletic Center at Rutgers. JERSEY CITY – Kevin Walker and Stephon Whyatt only needed one look at the film to know yesterday’s NJSIAA Non-Public, North A semifinal matchup against Roselle Catholic was going to be a big one for them. What the talented St. Peter’s Prep tandem saw was a group of guards which could not match their experience or quickness on the court.
Walker and Whyatt would take full advantage of that mismatch as they scored 19 points apiece and dominated the tempo in the Marauders’ convincing 68-37 win at The Barn to lock up a second-straight appearance in the finals. Read More

On paper it would seem that St. Peter’s Prep would have little chance of repeating the heights of last season. Replacing the production of guard Myles Davis and forward Ronald Roberts – two of the top players in the state a season ago – is a daunting task.
As great as that challenge may appear, the defending Hudson County Tournament and NJSIAA Non-Public, North A champions believe they have the pieces to remain one of the premier teams in New Jersey. Read More

In each of the past two seasons head coach Bob Hurley and St. Anthony had the unenviable task of trying to stop guards Myles Mack and Kyle Anderson in the state playoffs.
It’s a problem Hurley won’t have to deal with anymore as the dynamic duo joined the Friars after Paterson Catholic closed down this summer. St. Anthony enters the season in a familiar position of being considered one of the nation’s top teams with Mack and Anderson as two of the biggest reasons. Read More

The Hurley brothers just began their coaching stint with Wagner College in Staten Island, where Dan was named head coach and Bobby Jr. his assistant for the men’s basketball team. The Seawolves are currently 4-3 on the young season. Read More

PISCATAWAY - In what has already been an impressive season for St. Anthony and St. Peter's Prep you can now add another accomplishment to their already impressive resumes - sectional champions.
One year after being blown out at home by Seton Hall Prep in the semifinals, the Marauders extracted some revenge against their Essex County rival. After struggling to find a consistency on the offensive end for the first three quarters, St. Peter’s Prep broke through in the fourth behind a pair of Stephon Whyatt 3-pointers to earn a 64-54 win in the NJSIAA Non-Public, North A final. This new regimen continued to pay off for Williams as he scored eight third-quarter points as he and the Friars awoke from a first-half slumber to defeat St. John Vianney 63-26 last night at the CERC. Read More
