Hudson-Memorial game suspended til Sunday |
The Hudson County Boys Basketball Tournament quarterfinals matchup between Hudson Catholic and Memorial had to be halted last night after a Michael Young shattered a backboard on an attempted dunk.
The 6-foot-9 Young took a Grant Ellis pass and attempted a two-handed jam and broke the rim, sending shards of glass crashing to the floor of the Hudson Catholic gym with 7:07 left in the second quarter. The game will resume at that point on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hudson Catholic.
At the time the game was stopped, the top-seeded Hawks were in complete control, leading 37-8. Junior forward Reggie Cameron was lights out early, scoring 24 points. Young had eight rebounds and Stewart added five assists in the first nine minutes of play.
The winner of the Hudson Catholic-Memorial game will face No.4 seed Marist in the semifinals at Saint Peter's College on Tuesday night.
