HCT Roundup: Williams, Marist start strong

Junior Marv Williams had 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Royal Knights.

Marist 70, Harrison 26

Marv Williams erupted for 18 first-quarter points as the No. 3 seeded Royal Knights advanced with ease into the quarterfinals of the Hudson County Tournament.

Williams finished with a game-high 26 points, along with 10 rebounds as Marist (15-4) built up a 42-point lead in the opening half.

James Matthews and Josh Treadwell added 10 points apiece and Jarryd Horsley scored eight points. Ten different players scored for the Royal Knights in the victory.

David Passos scored eight points to lead the No. 14 seeded Blue Tide (11-8) in defeat.

High Tech 97, County Prep 68

Xavier Corporan went off for 31 points and 11 rebounds as the Lasercats stormed into the quarterfinals of the Hudson County Tournament yesterday in North Bergen.

Corporan scored 10 of those points in the second quarter when No. 4 seed High Tech (17-5) scored 33 points to break the game wide open.

John Greenwald also had a double-double for the Lasercats (17-5), scoring 21 points (11 in the third quarter) and pulling down 13 rebounds. Dmitri Pearson scored 12 points and Dwight Mathis added 10 in the win as High Tech will host Bayonne in the next round on Saturday.

Fatai Williams led the No. 13 seeded Hurricanes (10-9) with 28 points. Julius Branding scored 12 points and Rey Rivas added 11 in defeat.
