Derrick Williams scored a game-high 21 points to earn Most Outstanding Player honors for the Friars, but it wasn’t enough as St. Anthony lost 55-51 against Westchester (Los Angeles) at the HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Mass.

Trailing for most of the second half, Williams tied the game for the Friars (11-2) at 46-all with 2:17 left. But the Comets (15-2), ranked No.7 in the USA Today Super 25, responded with a 9-2 run to put the game out of reach.

Dwanye Polee blocked a potential go-ahead shot from Williams as Westchester took the rebound across court as Denzel Douglas found Kareem Jamar for an old-fashioned three-point. The basket and ensuing free throw would give the Comets a lead they would not relinquish.

Jamar, who is committed to the University of Montana, scored eight points during the game-winning stretch. He finished with a team-high 17 points and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

Jordin Mayes and Reggie Murphy added nine points apiece and Polee scored eight in the win.

Williams, who also had seven rebounds, was the only Friar to score in double-figures. Elijah Carter had nine points and five assists and Jordan Quick added eight points.

Devon Collier made his season debut for St. Anthony after missing the first 12 games due to academics. The Oregon State-bound senior was limited to just one point, but had six rebounds and two blocks on defense in 16 minutes.
